Dr. David Sanker is an award-winning mathematician and software architect-turned-patent strategist, today known as the founder of SankerIP, a Silicon Valley boutique focused on AI and advanced software, and as a former Partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, which represents 75% of the Fortune 100. His practice today sits at the intersection of rigorous mathematics, AI software, and intellectual property—helping innovators translate technical breakthroughs into durable, defensible portfolios. He earned his Ph.D. in Mathematics at UC Berkeley, researching number theory and cryptography; taught mathematics and computer science in academia; and then spent twelve years in production software as a senior architect at ProBusiness (acquired by ADP), where he designed large-scale payroll and HR systems used in high-throughput production.

Bringing that math/CS foundation into law, Dr. Sanker returned to Berkeley Law for his J.D. and joined Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, ultimately becoming a Partner. There, he practiced both patent litigation and prosecution, building global portfolios and trying matters in federal district courts, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the International Trade Commission. His technical and legal work spans software, AI/ML, cybersecurity, database architecture, data visualization, identity verification, and adjacent domains—translating complex algorithms and systems into durable IP assets.

In 2024 he founded SankerIP, a boutique focused on high-quality AI and software patent strategy. Widely recognized for AI x IP expertise—with Chambers (AI spotlight) and “Top AI Attorney” honors—Dr. Sanker writes and speaks frequently on the practical interface between generative AI and intellectual property, including the Global Legal Insights 2024 chapter, Practical guidelines for the use of generative AI.

Outside of work, Dr. Sanker brings a lifelong fascination with cognition and learning: as a teenager he set a world record by memorizing 10,000 digits of π, and more recently published the children’s book The Great Puddle (2022).
