A Fast Company Innovation by Design Awards honoree, Yukiko Añonuevo’s nearly 20 years of experience as a developer-designer have placed her among the world’s leading experts in user experience design for analytical cognition and data interactions. Combined with a rare understanding of multidimensional analytics technology, her ability to prototype & iterate quickly results in interfaces that Spindle’s customers find uniquely joyful, speedy, and powerful to wield.
Yukiko formerly served as Salesforce’s lead UX designer for Tableau’s Natural Language Querying (NLQ) interfaces, on the heels of that company’s acquisition of Spindle AI co-founder Ryan Atallah’s startup ClearGraph, where she served as the Head of Design. Across all three companies, she designed and prototyped complex data modeling, filtering, and querying features powered by industry-leading AI technologies.
While Yukiko’s career began in the Visualization Interface Design Innovation (VIDI) group at alma mater UC Davis, she quickly turned her talents to user experience and prototyping. She designed search results interfaces at hospitality mainstay Hotwire, where she learned the benefits of multivariate testing and data-driven decision-making. This experience taught her how business metrics shape decisions, a perspective that continues to inform her work both for Spindle AI and for its customers.
Yukiko enjoys experimenting with new product ideas, particularly those that augment human cognition and data understanding. She believes great design should clarify complexity without oversimplifying, and approaches her work with a mix of creativity, technical precision, and world-class craft.
Outside of work, Yukiko is an accomplished woodworker, spending weekends building custom furniture and acquiring power tools and a CNC machine at the home she shares with her husband and son in the Bay Area. She loves the contrast of maple-to-walnut and believes there’s no such thing as too many clamps. ∎
